Voices of Kesher with Judah Rose: Torah in the Writings and Thoughts of Abraham Lincoln

Tuesday, July 14, 2020 22 Tammuz 5780

8:00 PM - 9:00 PMZoom

Judah will discuss Psalms 19 and 90 (both specially included in p’sukei dezimrah of shabbat) as they relate to the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural, reappraisals of Lincoln’s religiosity based in part on Ronald White’s work (former professor of Theology at Princeton) and the religious sources of his anti-slavery position.   They are exemplar’s, in Judah’s opinion, of the criticality of biblical literacy to understanding America.  President Lincoln’s association with Georgetown is also well known – e.g. his son was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Judah Rose is a long time member of Kesher and current President.  In some circles of Kesher, his avocational interests in the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln are fairly well known (if not too well known).
